ABOUT

Hello! I'm Jessica, the founder of The Sweet Note Bakeshop. By day (or actually mostly by night) I'm a classical flutist, performing on Broadway, in orchestras, chamber groups, and as a session musician throughout NYC.  I am also an avid dessert maker and enthusiast.

Growing up in the suburbs of Los Angeles, my house was always filled with the aroma of home-cooked meals and freshly baked treats. My dad is a phenomenal cook, and my mom is an exceptional baker — nobody in my family EVER had a store-bought birthday cake. When I moved into my first apartment in college, I realized how much their passion for good food had rubbed off on me. Baking became a hobby that took my mind off of the flute for an hour, and was a wonderful way to bring joy to others. I continued this pastime into adulthood, sharing my home-baked sweets with friends, neighbors, and colleagues.

It became clear why I was drawn to music and baking: they both require precision (hooray for being a perfectionist), yet allow me to be creative, and they also reflect my desire to spread happiness. Music brings people together. Dessert brings people together. And thus, The Sweet Note was born.

Much like my love for classical music and timeless musical theater, I embrace somewhat of an old-fashioned approach to baking. I aim to use classic, comforting flavors that are family-friendly and appeal to a wide range of tastes and preferences. My treats are reminiscent of what one's mother or grandmother might have made, filled with warmth and nostalgia. In fact, several of my recipes here have been passed down from my mom and grandma. Despite acquiring an Irish last name from my husband, I come from a Jewish family, and I find that I am often heavily inspired by the Jewish-American desserts I grew up eating. My baking blends these cultural influences, creating a unique and meaningful fusion of traditions.

All my treats are completely homemade using high quality ingredients, and I avoid using anything that I wouldn't feel comfortable serving my own family. At The Sweet Note, you won’t find social media trends, viral recipes, or heavily decorated cookies and cakes. To me, dessert is about more than just looking picture-perfect—it’s about the memories evoked and smiles that come with each truly delicious bite. My hope is that my baked goods bring a bit of sweetness to your day. That they "hit all the right notes."

Thank you for visiting! I look forward to sharing my passion for baking with you, one treat at a time.
